Cold water and boater safety

There is so much to say here. Unfortunately every year Lake Champlain has a tragedy because of our warm spring days and the frigid lake waters.  An amazing resource can be found here, it does a great job unpacking the infamous 50/50/50 rule which seems really a myth. The take home from this resource? If you look carefully you will see that water below 70 degrees Fahrenheit should be considered COLD! Keep it simple, wear the right clothes, have a float plan, know your rescue skills and paddle with a partner.
